Amazing Women of the DRC Find Solace in Community
Justine Masika Bihamba, is one of the founders of Women's Synergy for the Victims of Sexual Violence, a women's human rights organization working in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
She leads a group of amazing women who help other women who have been the victims of sexual violence.
Because of her work, Justine and her family have been targeted by the DRC military. Last year, soldiers broke into her home and assaulted two of her children. Since the attack, her two daughters have fled the country out of fear for their safety. No investigation has yet been held into the attacks on the Bihamba family.
Justine is an example of the many human rights defenders around the world who risk their jobs, their freedom and their very lives to combat injustice.
These three videos highlight Justine's work and the plight of women in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They are at once tragic and inspiring testaments to Justine's passion for helping other women in the face of almost insurmountable odds.
They also demonstrate the resilience and spirit of Congolese women who comfort each other through community.
