Scottish virtuoso percussionist Evelyn Glennie has been profoundly deaf since she was 12.
She's also Western society's first full-time solo professional percussionist. In fact, Glennie and her talents turn deafness on its ear (excuse the pun). You can see (and hear!), for yourself in the February 2003 TED Talk at the end of this article.

Frida Kahlo de Rivera (July 6, 1907 – July 13, 1954; born Magdalena Carmen Frieda Kahlo y Calderón) was a Mexican painter, born in Coyoacán. Perhaps best known for her self-portraits, Kahlo's work is remembered for its "pain and passion", and its intense, vibrant colors.
Her work has been celebrated in Mexico as emblematic of national and indigenous tradition, and by feminists for its uncompromising depiction of the female experience and form.

Diana, Princess of Wales, (Diana Frances née Spencer; 1 July 1961 – 31 August 1997) was a popular international media icon of the late 20th century as the first wife of Charles, Prince of Wales, whom she married on 29 July 1981.
The wedding, which was held at St. Paul's Cathedral, was televised and watched by a global audience of over 750 million people.

Emma Goldman (June 27 (NS), 1869 – May 14, 1940) was an anarchist known for her political activism, writing and speeches. She was born in Kovno in the Russian Empire (now Kaunas in Lithuania).
