Stillettos and Mary Stand Above the Crowd
Susan notes: An email from AWR member Mary Wagner, author of Running with Stilettos: Living a Balanced Life in Dangerous Shoes, to say fame has arrived and fortune may be due to follow. Congratulations Mary.
Hi y'all,
As if the past weekend down on St. Simons Island speaking at the Scribbler's Retreat Writing Conference wasn't good enough--ranging from being ferried to and fro in the back seat of a Lincoln Town Car, birdwatching on the shore, horseback riding on the beach, climbing the stairs to the top of the lighthouse, being the designated non-driver in a Cadillac Escalade and losing myself to the world while sitting in an Adirondack chair enjoying drinks on the lawn of the Sea Island Club as the kilt-clad bagpiper played at dusk...
I just got surprised with some great news: Running with Stilettos: Living a Balanced Life in Dangerous Shoes just picked up a Silver award in the "humor" category of the national 2009 IPPY competition (Independent Publisher Book Awards). Woo hoo! This comes on the heels of the book taking first place just this past Saturday for "non-fiction biography/autobiography" in the Illinois Woman's Press Association 2009 communications contest. (Now it goes on to the National Federation of Press Women's 2009 contest, and I've got my fingers crossed.)
I expect to wake up any time now!
Mary
