You Don't Have To Be Muslim To Wear #PINK Hijab

susan_pink_hijab.jpgBreast cancer knows no religious, racial, ethnic or national boundaries.

Millions of women and increasingly large numbers of men suffer its dread effects. The same is true of all disease, war, and disaster.

We must stand together as sisters and brothers around the world, fighting against that which is evil and dark in our world, so we can celebrate as one family that which is good and pure and light.

I'm pleased to join Muslim sisters around the world today and for the rest of Breast Cancer Awareness month by wearing this beautiful #PINK hijab.

I do so in the hope that one day we will find a cure for this terrible disease that has robbed so many women and men of the long lives that might have lived without its ravages.

I Can’t Change Men. But I Can Change Myself.

Susan notes: Kendra Arguello was born in Ecuador and lived there until she was eleven when her family moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, in United States. She now lives in Utah where she researches women's issues and works on the WomanStats Project, (www.womanstat.org) to help bring awareness to the plight of women around the world. Arguello recently married, and hopes to be a source for good in the cause for women.

I had an experience about a year ago that, I am ashamed to say, I pushed from my mind. Being frustrated with the situation I decided that rather than dwell on it, I’d ignore it-not the best way to solve a problem. At our last weekly meeting, however, my thoughts on the subject were again triggered.

Excuse Me Sir, Would You Grab Me Some Tampons Please?

“Excuse me sir, I don’t have a lock for my bike,” says the young girl to a male passerby. “Can you run into the store and grab me some tampons?”

Thus begins one of several “social experiment” videos that are a part of UbyKotex’s brilliant “Break the Cycle” campaign designed to change the way we take about vaginas, periods and women’s reproductive healthcare.

Unlike the series of YouTube videos I dissed in my last blog post Would You Buy a Maxi Pad From A Half-Naked Man?, the Kotex campaign takes a bold, creative, provocative and most important, sensible approach to the business of advertising feminine products.
